sdXY – SCSI-based disks (SATA disks also show up as SCSI)

hdXY – IDE-based disks

X: the letter refers to the disk on the system.Y: the number refers to the partition number on the drive.

For example:

/dev/sda/dev/sda1/dev/sda2/dev/sdb/dev/sdb1
